I hope these thoughts give you something to ponder while you enjoy your morning beverage. As you go about your day, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your observations. Consider if there’s anything you can do to enhance your life, such as looking into the mirror and appreciating yourself. You may also find a way to make the world more beautiful with a simple act of kindness. Perhaps you can hold the door open without expecting a thank you. You may also want to consider if you have a gift to share with the world. Maybe you have some untapped talent you regret wasting, as we sometimes do with unused towels or our good china. I hope you find them enjoyable and return for more tomorrow.
We are fortunate that the breath we breathe comes naturally from the moment we are born.
Additionally, we are fortunate that we can learn to use our breathing when we need it most. For example, I was writing Breath, and I found myself off of the direction I wanted to go and into this: Breathe. So, I stopped and took a breath as I sat quietly. Through breathing, I found I could have two separate Morning Coffee articles.
Sometimes, we use our breath to calm us when we are anxious or angry. We step back and slow our breathing by taking longer breaths and exhales. When we take our thoughts off the thing that is upsetting us and place it on our breath, we can usually clear our minds and think more rationally.
When we meditate, we again use our breath to help us focus our minds. By concentrating on breathing, we can put the thoughts that create chaos in our lives aside for the time.
Occasionally, we must remind ourselves to breathe.
Today’s challenge:
Take a moment to breathe deeply to a count of four; hold for seven and release for a count of eight. Do this up to ten times, a few times a day.
