I hope these thoughts give you something to ponder while you enjoy your morning beverage. As you go about your day, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your observations. Consider if there’s anything you can do to enhance your life, such as looking into the mirror and appreciating yourself. You may also find a way to make the world more beautiful with a simple act of kindness, like holding the door open without expecting a thank you. You may also want to consider if you have a gift to share with the world. Perhaps you have some untapped talent you may regret wasting, as we sometimes do with unused towels or our good china. I hope you find them enjoyable and return for more tomorrow.
Expectations
We all have expectations.
Some may never be met because they were not meant to be.
The expectations we put on ourselves can be helpful as well as harmful to us. Most of us expect a lot from ourselves. We may find ourselves becoming disappointed because we did not live up to our dreams. However, it could be that we were not ready to reach the bar yet and may still be able to in the future. Therefore, if we think we can do it, it is more than likely we can. Hence, we need to give ourselves a break and time.
Unfortunately, expectations may also limit us. We may never know our full potential if we set them too low. We often do not give ourselves the credit we should. As a result, we are surprised that we can accomplish something we did not believe ourselves capable of.
Similarly, we put expectations on others. At times, we may find ourselves disappointed when they do not meet our ideals of them. Nevertheless, it is not anyone’s responsibility to live up to another’s expectations of them.
It’s essential to remember that each person is only accountable for meeting their own set expectations.
Having healthy expectations can be helpful in life, but it’s important to realize that they should also be flexible. It’s just as harmful to beat ourselves up for not achieving something as it is to lack the confidence to do more than we believe we can.
Today’s challenge:
Stop expecting so much from others.
