I hope these thoughts give you something to ponder while you enjoy your morning beverage. As you go about your day, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your observations. Consider if there’s anything you can do to enhance your life, such as looking into the mirror and appreciating yourself. You may also find a way to make the world more beautiful with a simple act of kindness, like holding the door open without expecting a thank you. You may also want to consider if you have a gift to share with the world. Perhaps you have some untapped talent you may regret wasting, as we sometimes do with unused towels or our good china. I hope you find them enjoyable and return for more tomorrow.
Golden Threads
Most of us have had one of those days when nothing feels like it is going right. The more we focus on what goes wrong, the more things continue to go wrong.
Maybe you stubbed your toe when you got out of bed, then burned your tongue on your coffee. The day continues to go this way—one little upset after another. You feel like you cannot catch a break.
However, there is a golden thread that you can grasp to pull yourself out of this downward spiral. Be grateful that it is one small thing after another, not one significant thing after another.
If you cannot grab that golden thread, another will pop up. They will keep popping up until you realize what you are doing and can save yourself.
These golden threads will come in the form of laughing at yourself for what you said or did. Maybe you turn on the TV to the funniest scene you have ever seen or hear a baby laugh. The belly laugh that all babies have, or maybe you have set yourself up with a golden thread for the occasions when you can’t stop the spiral.
We should all have a golden thread in our arsenal—that one thing we know we can count on to stop us from spiraling out of control. It could be how your pet greets you at the end of a long day, how your child touches your face, or a silly face you make at yourself in the mirror. Whatever it is, it is essential to have it ready at your fingertips to grab hold of it and pull yourself up.
Today’s challenge:
Prepare a golden thread for yourself.
