I hope these thoughts give you something to ponder while you enjoy your morning beverage. As you go about your day, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your observations. Consider if there’s anything you can do to enhance your life, such as looking into the mirror and appreciating yourself. You may also find a way to make the world more beautiful with a simple act of kindness, like holding the door open without expecting a thank you. You may also want to consider if you have a gift to share with the world. Perhaps you have some untapped talent you may regret wasting, as we sometimes do with unused towels or our good china. I hope you find them enjoyable and return for more tomorrow.
It Is What It Is
This is the perspective I use when there are things that I cannot change or may not want to change. We all have past regrets about our or someone else’s doing. Things that are what they are.
When trying to better our future, we cannot let past mistakes or incidents consume us. Instead, we need to see them as things we need to grow around, which is what my father says while I say, “It is what it is.” We must accept them for what they are and move on from them.
We could examine them, however, to discover if we learned and improved from them. For example, they may have helped us understand things differently, possibly in a way that we can help others. They may also have taught us forgiveness.
On occasion, some of my past regrets sneak up on me. Sometimes, something I did, and sometimes, things that were done to me. I have learned not to let them consume me but rather let them sit. When they do not receive the attention they seek, they return to being what it is.
We all have past regrets; it is just how we react to them.
Today’s challenge:
Don’t pick at old wounds; let them be what they are.
