I hope these thoughts give you something to ponder while you enjoy your morning beverage. As you go about your day, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your observations.  Consider if there’s anything you can do to enhance your life, such as looking into the mirror and appreciating yourself.  You may also find a way to make the world more beautiful with a simple act of kindness, like holding the door open without expecting a thank you.  You may also want to consider if you have a gift to share with the world.  Perhaps you have some untapped talent you may regret wasting, as we sometimes do with unused towels or our good china.  I hope you find them enjoyable and return for more tomorrow.

Respect

Who do you respect?

People often demand respect. However, it cannot be demanded; it must be earned.

With that said, everyone, including children, deserves respect.    However, with this right comes responsibility.  It is our responsibility to continue to hold that admiration.  In other words, we cannot expect someone to continue to offer us this gift if we do not appreciate it or offer it back.

Respect is a small gesture with a large impact.  It is a gift we give to one another out of appreciation.  When that gift is mistreated, it can quickly be taken away.  Yet it is so simple to keep.  To keep this beautiful gift, all we have to do is offer love, kindness, compassion, and gratitude in return.

It is essential that we also give ourselves this gift.  Self-respect sets a tone, telling the world that you show respect and have earned it, too.  How can you expect this gift from others if you do not give it to yourself first?

In the beginning, I said that respect cannot be demanded; however, Mother Nature can demand it, and more importantly, she deserves it.  She has given each of us this gift by giving us this beautiful world, and she will continue to provide us with this gift even if we do not give it back to her.  That is why, above all else, she deserves it the most.

So, I ask again, whom do you respect?

Today’s challenge:

Appreciate something in Nature today: a flower, a tree, the sky, the clouds, or a simple blade of grass.
