I hope these thoughts give you something to ponder while you enjoy your morning beverage. As you go about your day, I invite you to take some time to reflect on your observations. Consider if there’s anything you can do to enhance your life, such as looking into the mirror and appreciating yourself. You may also find a way to make the world more beautiful with a simple act of kindness, like holding the door open without expecting a thank you. You may also want to consider if you have a gift to share with the world. Perhaps you have some untapped talent you may regret wasting, as we sometimes do with unused towels or our good china. I hope you find them enjoyable and return for more tomorrow.
Why do we always feel the need to one-up someone else?
Rivalry can bring out the worst in us. As a result, competition is created instead of collaboration.
We are all guilty of this at times. Instead of exploring what someone else says, we react—creating a rivalry between right and wrong. It is a competition that neither side will win because the rivalry will prevent any chance to collaborate.
Healthy competition is good; however, it is unhealthy when we turn everything into a competition. For instance, children’s games should be beneficial learning experiences, not a rivalry. You have probably heard the saying: “There is no “I” in team.” Being on a team is an opportunity to learn how to collaborate with teammates. Also, to learn how to win and lose gracefully. Of course, we all love to win. However, winning is not always the holy grail.
Collaboration instead of rivalry among teammates creates a more enjoyable experience. This is true in all areas of life. Personal relationships, as well as work relationships, will benefit from collaboration. We may find ourselves laughing and enjoying each other’s company more.
Imagine how beautiful our world would be if we didn’t compete over things like religion or trivial things, such as whose lawn looks better. Instead, we strived to see each other as equals rather than rivals.
Today’s challenge:
Examine your reactions to others today and see if there is an opportunity for collaboration instead of competition.
